Fantastic Four is hitting cinemas this week, and considering it’s expected to set up Avengers: Doomsday, make sure you stay seated for its post-credit scene(s).
Ever since Endgame, Marvel has struggled to spark the same level of hype around its projects. Two films (Spider-Man: No Way Home and Deadpool & Wolverine) have made over $1 billion, but there hasn’t been as much excitement compared to the Infinity Saga.
Is that about to change with Fantastic Four? Maybe, as it’ll pave the way for Doomsday, the next Avengers movie that happens to star Robert Downey Jr as Doctor Doom, perhaps the franchise’s biggest bad to date.
You’re probably wondering if he shows up in the new movie. That remains to be seen – but, according to a new report, we know how many post-credits scenes to expect.
How many post-credits scenes in Fantastic Four?
According to insider Daniel Richtman, there are two post-credits scenes in Fantastic Four.
“One is a joke, the other is a set-up for Doomsday,” Richtman wrote on his Patreon.
This is a familiar template for Marvel movies’ post-credits stingers; The Avengers ended with a Thanos tease and the heroes eating shawarma, and Spider-Man: Homecoming ended with Vulture meeting Mac Gargan in prison and Captain America telling viewers about the importance of patience.
The question is, what will it be? Will Downey make his first appearance as Doctor Doom? Will we see the Fantastic Four arriving in Earth-616 and meeting the Thunderbolts (aka the New Avengers), as teased in an earlier post-credits scene?
Here’s what we know for sure (and can say without spoiling anything): the Russo Brothers directed one of the post-credits scenes.
“They did. This was done during the production of Avengers: Doomsday,” director Matt Shakman told ComicBook.
“They’re amazing at what they do and they’re lovely, generous people. They were very involved… as we were making this film, they wanted to visit our sets and watch scenes as they were coming together, and get to know these characters so they could treat them well and do right by them in the next movie.
“I always think of working at Marvel as a relay race. You pass that baton, you run as hard and fast as you can for that section of the race that belongs to you, and then you pass it on.”
There have been rumors and supposed leaks regarding exactly what happens in one of the post-credits scenes. If you don’t want to find out, you should stay away from social media for the next few days, as spoilers will spread quickly.
