Fans divided after Pokemon Go teases Gold Bottle Cap introduction

Pokemon Go has teased the addition of the iconic Bottle Cap, an item introduced in Gen 7. However, fans are divided, with many being hyped and others worried about how it will affect the game.

Niantic has been adding different items over the years to keep the game updated and interesting, giving it more depth, increasing its difficulty, but above all, to maintain the fun for long-time players.

This time around, they are shaking things up with the addition of the long-awaited Bottle Caps. These, and their most valuable version – the Gold Bottle Cap – were introduced in the mainline games, Sun & Moon, and are used to maximize a Pokemon’s IVs through Hyper Training.

Now that they are coming to Pokemon Go during the Ancient Recovered event, which will feature all the Regis, players are equally worried and excited about the impact the item will have.

Pokemon Go fans don’t know where to stand regarding Bottle Caps

Niantic broke the news with a video posted on the Pokemon Go’s X account where Regirock, Regice, Registeel, Regieleki, and Regidrago can be seen. The short clip shows a Gold Bottle Cap during its final seconds, while the copy asks players if they are ready to unlock their Pokemon’s full potential.

Players immediately recognized the Bottle Cap icon and jumped to the comments section to share their opinions on the game’s upcoming addition.

While some of them were just plain excited about being able to change their favorite Pokemon’s IVs and started to share which creatures they would use it on first, others voiced their concerns about how the item would be obtained.

“This will be interesting,” one user wrote. “Many good Pokemon of mine with those lower stat tables can benefit greatly from this, but I’m wary of the potential wall that needs to be climbed to do this. We shall see, but I don’t know. Hopefully this isn’t a money gimmick.”

To which another more desperate player added, “Please don’t make them mega rare. Make an option to buy them in the shop. I don’t care if they are 1000 coins”.

On the other hand, a few gatekeepers were against the idea of trainers having an easier way of obtaining Pokemon with perfect IVs, with one saying, “Personally not a fan, now every non-deserving peasant playing will have a shundo they didn’t earn.”

For now, the Gold Bottle Cap has only been teased, and no further details on how it can be obtained, whether there will be a maximum per player or Pokemon, or how it will even work have been shared. Players will have to wait until the Ancient Recovered event kicks off on June 23, 2025, to learn more about this training item.
