A former McDonald’s chef has revealed that the returning Snack Wraps have caused “havoc” in kitchens, and they might be ruining the experience for customers.
Whenever a fan-favorite item drops off the McDonald’s menu, it doesn’t take long for them to start demanding its return. We’ve seen this with numerous limited-edition milkshakes, chicken products, and even sauces.
Yet, the Snack Wrap probably stands above the lot. The chicken wraps have continued to be offered in the UK and across Europe, but fans in the United States have been desperate for their return.
McDonald’s restaurants finally brought them back on July 10, but fans have had a few complaints about them not stacking up to their previous iteration. And, from inside the kitchen, they’re causing “havoc.”
Snack Wraps are slowing down McDonald’s orders
That’s according to former McDonald’s corporate chef Mike Haracz, who made a TikTok on the wraps returning.
“It has been causing havoc within the restaurant, as well as a variety of people trying the Snack Wrap and being like ‘what is this?’” Haracz said on July 17. “This is not the old Snack Wrap. This is with that new McCrispy tender.”
The former McDonald’s chef said that current employees have told him that the Snack Wraps are adding “25 to 30 more seconds, on average, per car.” He noted that they were apparently removed back in the day because of the “operational complexity” of getting the Snack Wraps out.
“When people come in and order 12 of them, it slow down the make table – the line in the kitchen – so it just takes longer to fulfill orders through the drive-thru,” he added.
“So, not only is the Snack Wrap not as good as you remember, its more expensive, you might get raw ones, and you have to wait extra long for it.”
The Snack Wraps are not going to go away anytime soon, but changes might come given the feedback.
