Fortnite devs have responded to rumors regarding IP bans in social media that have left a lot of players worried.
As an online multiplayer game, Epic is known to take action against players who violate the rules in Fortnite. After all, they didn’t just make a cheater post an apology video after a permanent ban; they’ve also previously sued a player who stole and sold accounts.
The thought of losing one’s account due to getting banned, especially after collecting so many rare skins, is always a worrying thought.
Hence, when rumors about Epic doing an IP ban wave surfaced, many players started panicking on social media. Following this, the company has just gave their response in a statement to give clarification to the community.
Epic confirms they don’t do ban waves based on IP address
The source of the rumor originally suggested that players could potentially get banned for logging into their friends’ accounts, increasing the chances of their IP being flagged. Thus, adding it to the “next inactive wave”, which could lead to getting all their accounts banned.
Players should avoid buying and selling accounts altogether.
However, as it turns out, this isn’t actually true, according to Epic. As stated in a comment, they don’t ban waves based on the players’ IP addresses.
Rather, they would disable accounts that they believe have been compromised solely to protect the original owner and so that the account can be recovered.
The full statement is as follows: “Hey! That’s correct; anyone can play Fortnite on different devices. We always recommend logging out of a shared device to protect the account.”
“And to clarify, we don’t ban waves based on IP address. When we find accounts we believe are compromised, we’ll disable them to protect the owner so the account can be recovered.”
For players worried about losing access to their accounts, it’s worth noting that you should set up the 2FA setting before anything else just to be safe. It’s also recommended that you keep your device secure and avoid buying and sharing accounts, as these aren’t allowed.
