Emma B: “Rarity — That’s What Has Always Drawn Me In”

A rising force in France’s underground dance scene, Emma B channels her love for 80s/90s counterculture into her latest release, “Eyes on Me”. We caught up with her to learn more about her life beyond the studio.
Personal hobbies
I’m obsessed with thrifting. It’s a hobby that turned into my job — whether it’s vinyl records or fashion with my vintage brand, Oldē.
I discovered flea markets when I was around eight. I’m from the South of France, where we have a ton of them. My mom used to take me along and we had our own stand where we sold our things. She would set everything up while I wandered around, trying to hunt for the best hidden gems. I loved those simple moments : a little stand, a camping chair, a sandwich at lunchtime, surrounded by all these unique objects. Rarity — that’s what has always drawn me in.

Things you been watching lately
I’m late, but I just started Breaking Bad and wow — what a series! Everything about it is spot on: the direction, the plot, the colour palette, the characters and how the actors portray them. Everything.
I also finished The Queen’s Gambit, which is incredibly well done too. I loved how the actress explores her personal growth, inner struggles, dependency on tranquilizers, human relationships, and her drive to make a place for herself in a male-dominated world. It’s a story of emotion and determination. It actually reminded me a bit of my own journey, minus the pill addiction, of course!
Things you find funny
I love François Damien. His kind of slightly trashy humour cracks me up. He’s one of the pioneers of hidden camera comedy. He pushes people to the edge while staying completely calm in the most awkward and absurd situations. It’s a shame he’s well-known now, because the hidden camera thing doesn’t really work anymore.
More recently, there’s Maxime Gasteuil, whose humor is all about today’s society. He often compares the South of France to Paris. Full of clichés and always something to complain about. I love it.
As for actors, I’m a big fan of Jonathan Cohen. I just know that whatever show, episode, or movie he’s in (Qui est l’imposteur, Serge le mytho, LOL, etc.), it’s going to be hilarious.
Books You Have Been Reading
I’ve been reading two very different types of books: The Housemaid by Freida McFadden and The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle.
The first one is more of a buzzy “it-book” that everyone was talking about. A psychological thriller with suspense. It’s quite simple, but the kind of story that keeps you hooked and wanting to know how it ends.
The second, The Power of Now, isn’t a novel but more like a daily companion. It’s not about intellectually understanding everything, but more about feeling what the author is trying to share: a state of peace, detachment, and pure presence.
Right now, I’m deep into personal development, and my mind can sometimes be exhausted. This book has been doing me a world of good.
Articles you have been reading
A lot of different articles lately—mostly about music, its history, the eras, the styles, and so on.
I love Resident Advisor for staying updated and discovering more niche or cutting-edge stuff.
Right now, with the launch of my label Notte Eterna, I’ve been diving deep into the history of electronic music from the ’90s and early 2000s, since the label is a direct nod to that era and all the styles that came out of it.
On the fashion side, I really enjoy reading Vogue—they cover a mix of topics: fashion, music, culture, and even more when those subjects are intertwined.
Your favourite documentaries
I’m a huge fan of thrillers and true crime documentaries. Must be my inner psychopath! But I absolutely love anything about real-life cases, crimes, serial killers, and that kind of dark stuff. For example: Gregory, the Menendez Brothers, the Watts case, and Dahmer.
But I also love biopics such as Angèle, Avicii, or Amy.
Your favourite recipes
Love food, hate cooking…!
I’d say my mom’s chocolate cake — honestly the best I’ve ever had. And I know my sweets pretty well… I’m kind of addicted..
Now that I have to be careful with my intolerances (no lactose, no gluten), she bought me a cookbook for gluten and dairy-free recipes, and I’m trying to adapt.
I recently discovered a girl on Instagram who’s all about no-gluten cooking. She shares amazing recipes, especially sweet ones, using unexpected ingredients.
Your favourite hotels
I’ve had the chance to stay at The Residence hotels in both Zanzibar and the Maldives, and honestly, it was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. Everything was perfect: the dreamy setting, the incredibly attentive staff, total disconnection—I highly recommend it.
In France, I love Hôtel Amour. The vibe is super welcoming and has a kind of family feel to it. I have a soft spot for the one in Nice—the decor is super cute, and the location is amazing, just steps away from the sea!
Your favourite cars
I’m obsessed with vintage, so I’d say vintage cars—like a Pebble Beige or Yellow 1967 Ford Mustang.
Your favourite films
I’m a die-hard fan of Gaspard Noé. I love his aesthetic, the way he shoots, his disturbing, almost hallucinatory films that explore the limits of human and mental experience. I’ve seen all of them, and Enter the Void is one of my all-time favorites.
But I also have a softer side, like the classic The Notebook: a passionate and heartbreaking love story about a love that withstands time, illness, and even memory loss.
