Elsbeth Season 2 Episode 20 already has hidden “crisis” ready for Season 3

CBS has done it again with a bamboozling, mind-boggling finale – but in between the chaos of Elsbeth Season 2 Episode 20, a “crisis” is brewing ahead of Season 3.

The Good Wife spinoff follows unconventional attorney Elsbeth Tascioni, who works with the NYPD to catch the city’s killers nobody else can get to. Two seasons in and she’s zanier than ever, with the binge-worthy TV show bringing things to a close with a death-defying finale.

We had it all – a musical number in the style of Chicago’s ‘Cell Block Tango,’ Kaya seemingly leaving for good, and our main girl locked up in prison the entire time. Of course, she solves a case from there, but that might have come at a price.

While Kaya’s goodbye party nearly wrapped up Elsbeth Season 2 Episode 20 without much of a fight, will things really stay that way for Elsbeth herself?

Elsbeth Season 2 Episode 20 teases “crisis of faith” for Season 3

Speaking to TV Line, actress Carrie Preston has hinted a “crisis of faith” is in store for Elsbeth in Season 3 following the events of Season 2 Episode 20.

“She’s a tenacious person. She also allows herself to sit in her feelings and let them be,” Preston says. “She might not talk about them out loud, but she’s going to experience them and let those things inform her next choices and let herself be vulnerable in situations, and that’s beautiful.

“I think she’s going to have this moment where she has a crisis of faith about the justice system but overcomes it and doubles down on her original mission, which is to find truth and find justice and to have atonement and to right some wrongs of her past, and I think she’ll continue to do that as she moves forward.”

Given Elsbeth found herself in the same detention center as several of the killers she helped put away, it won’t be surprising if she turns against the system that made her. In case you missed it, she was sent to jail for misdemeanor harassment of a witness because of her closeness to Crawford’s murder.

Showrunner Jonathan Tolins told TV Insider that Elsbeth’s time in prison was “a one-off, but we are not done looking at what happens to some of our people after Elsbeth seems to be finished with them in their original episode.”

CBS already renewed a third season for later in the 2025-2026 slate, with Kaya set to return as a guest star rather than a main character.

“She’s irreplaceable. We just want to continue her story in the way that honors her character and get her back when we can,” Preston told US Weekly. “Then we’ll see what happens and what new friends Elsbeth makes along the way.”
