EA is shooting for the hoop once again as EA Sports has announced a return to making College Basketball games. This, of course, comes on the back of College Football 25’s monumental success.
College Basketball is coming back into the spotlight. EA Sports confirmed its return to the collegiate level with the tease of a game announcement on June 30, 2025.
“Bring the Madness. Let’s run it back,” the EA Sports X (formerly Twitter) account shared alongside a hashtag for College Basketball. For any non-US readers left puzzled, ‘Madness’ is a reference to March Madness, one of the biggest sporting events on the calendar each year.
The accompanying image makes it clear as day, showing a rendered basketball with the EA Sports logo imprinted on the surface. It really is time to run it back for the first time since 2009.
EA Sports returning to College Basketball
Back before 2K Games completely dominated the space, there were a few developers jostling for attention in the Basketball space. EA was chief among them, running the annualized NBA Live series and its NCAA Basketball series to boot.
While NBA Live continued on through until 2018, EA left the collegiate level games behind all the way back in 2009. NCAA Basketball 10 was the final release.
That’s clearly set to change now, however. For the time being, there’s no telling when EA Sports may be targeting a release for a new College Basketball game, but given the sudden announcement, it might not be long until we learn more.
2K Games historically releases its yearly NBA games in September. As such, EA Sports could be looking to get ahead of the competition with an earlier launch, or piggyback on the hype of 2K26 with a closer release. We’ll just have to wait and see how it pans out.
Blake Griffin was the cover star for the last College Basketball game. That’s how long it’s been.
When EA finally returned to College Football last year after a decade with no new games, it set the gaming industry on fire. EA Sports College Football 25 sold 2.8 million copies upon release alone. It has since gone on to become the single best-selling sports-focused video game of all time in the US.
Thus, it comes as no surprise EA wants to replicate that level of success in another field. Now, College Basketball gets a chance to shine after years of being neglected in the gaming world.
