DJI SDR Transmission specs, price and availability announced

DJI has introduced a new video transmission system designed to make advanced software-defined radio (SDR) technology more accessible. This latest offering from DJI aims to enhance video transmission stability, strong interference resistance, and robust penetration capabilities tailored for small- and medium-sized film crews. Additionally, it supports simultaneous Wi-Fi transmissions for temporary monitoring, providing filmmakers with the flexibility needed on set.

“From the outset, our goal with the DJI PRO line has been to create a comprehensive and reliable ecosystem of drones, cameras, and creator tools for professional filmmakers and content creators alike,” stated Paul Pan, Senior Product Line Manager at DJI. “By listening closely to user feedback, we continue to expand our offerings in creative camera technologies, and our new DJI SDR Transmission delivers film and television-level image transmission quality at a more accessible price point for emerging filmmakers.”

High-Quality Video Feeds with Ultimate Stability

The DJI SDR Transmission utilizes SDR technology to ensure stable video transmissions even in complex shooting environments. Filmmakers can expect 1080p/60fps live feeds with a bitrate of up to 20Mbps and a delay as low as 35 milliseconds. Video can be transmitted up to 3 kilometres (1.8 miles) away, maintaining stable live feeds thanks to superior penetration capabilities. When faced with interferences, the system automatically hops across 2.4 GHz, 5.8 GHz, and DFS frequency bands to find the optimal channel.

Smooth Collaboration with Diverse Monitoring Methods

The DJI SDR Transmission enhances collaboration on set by outputting three SDR signals and two Wi-Fi signals simultaneously. In broadcast mode, it can connect to unlimited receivers, offering a high-quality monitoring experience for multiple collaborators. The receiver can connect to monitors via SDI/HDMI and to smartphones and tablets via USB-C or Wi-Fi, allowing for a cost-effective, dual-channel monitoring experience without additional receivers.

Remote Camera Controls for Agile and Innovative Monitoring

When used with DJI RS Series Stabilizers, the DJI SDR Transmission supports features like Force Mobile, virtual joystick, and gimbal recentering functions. Paired with a camera, it supports PTP control, allowing users to adjust the aperture, shutter, and ISO and trigger the camera’s photo-taking and video-recording functions through the app. It also supports CEC control for Sony cameras, enabling Mirror Control mode.

Efficient Workflow and Collaboration Across DJI PRO and Beyond

The system can transmit metadata, facilitating efficient collaboration during filming. When connected to the DJI Ronin app in Broadcast mode, users can seamlessly switch between camera indexes. Mainstream cinema cameras like ARRI and RED can be adapted via SDI, providing directors, cinematographers, and DIT teams with real-time access to detailed shooting information.

Versatile Power Supply Options

The DJI SDR Transmission supports standard PD protocol charging with a USB-C power input. When mounted together, it can also be powered directly by DJI RS 4 Pro, DJI RS 4, or DJI RS 3 Pro, eliminating the need for a separate battery. Both the transmitter and receiver support industry-standard NP-F batteries for standalone use.

Compact, Lightweight, Portable

Designed for portability, a single transmitter or receiver weighs only 145 grams (5.1 oz). The antenna folds down for easy transport and storage, making it ideal for crews on the move.
