DJI Osmo Mobile 7 and 7P Smartphone Gimbals Officially Announced

DJI has officially announced the release of its latest smartphone gimbals: the Osmo Mobile 7 and Osmo Mobile 7P, designed to cater to both casual users and professional videographers. While these two models share a core set of features, they each offer distinct functionalities aimed at different user needs. The Osmo Mobile 7 is the more affordable option, perfect for casual users seeking ease of use, while the Osmo Mobile 7P is a professional-grade version offering enhanced capabilities for more serious creators.

One of the most notable design changes is the removal of the side wheel on the Osmo Mobile 7, which was a standout feature in the Osmo Mobile 6. Instead, DJI has opted for a more streamlined rocker control, simplifying the gimbal’s interface for casual users. However, the side wheel remains a key feature on the Osmo Mobile 7P. The 7P model offers greater cinematic control, allowing users to adjust focal length, manually control zoom, and adjust focus. Additionally, the side wheel can be used for controlling the built-in fill light, giving users precise control over both the brightness and color temperature.
Both gimbals feature DJI’s seventh-generation three-axis stabilization system and ActiveTrack 7.0, which DJI claims is its most advanced tracking technology to date. When paired with the DJI Mimo app, the gimbals offer impressive subject tracking capabilities, ensuring smooth, stable footage even when filming in crowded or dynamic environments. ActiveTrack 7.0 can detect and follow multiple subjects, allowing users to effortlessly switch focus between different subjects with a simple tap. This feature makes the gimbals ideal for everything from solo vlogging to fast-moving action shots.
A major highlight of the Osmo Mobile 7P is the introduction of the Multifunctional Module. This accessory attaches to the gimbal via a magnetic clip and enhances the tracking experience by allowing users to control their phone’s native camera app or live streaming applications through gestures. Users can trigger actions like starting or stopping recording, activating tracking, or using the module’s integrated light control to adjust the fill light’s brightness and color temperature. The Multifunctional Module also offers extra functionalities, such as microphone support via a USB-C connection and the ability to provide additional power to the phone during use. While the Osmo Mobile 7 does not include the Multifunctional Module, it is fully compatible with it and can be purchased separately.
Battery life is another area where the new Osmo Mobile series has seen significant improvements. Both the Osmo Mobile 7 and 7P boast a battery life of up to 10 hours, a notable upgrade from the 6 hours and 24 minutes provided by the Osmo Mobile 6. Recharging is quick, taking just 2.5 hours via a USB-C cable, ensuring that users can spend more time filming and less time waiting for a recharge.
In terms of additional features, both models offer a range of creative shooting modes, including time-lapse, panorama, dynamic zoom, and various panning presets. The inclusion of a built-in tripod and a 1/4″-20 mounting thread further expands the possibilities for creative setups and accessory integration. The Osmo Mobile 7 also supports Apple Watch control through the DJI Mimo app, offering remote gimbal operation right from your wrist.
For those who need even more control and options, the Osmo Mobile 7P also includes a built-in extension rod, which allows users to capture more dynamic, wide-angle shots. This makes the 7P an ideal tool for professional-level content creation, especially for those who need versatility and advanced control in their filming.
Both the Osmo Mobile 7 and 7P are available for purchase now, priced at $89 and $149, respectively. With their enhanced stabilization, tracking features, and new accessories, these gimbals promise to be an invaluable tool for smartphone filmmakers, whether you’re a casual creator or a seasoned professional.
