Daredevil: Born Again needs to bring back Marvel’s most terrifying villain ever

Daredevil: Born Again drew to a dramatic and ultimately devastating close, and while Season 1 perfectly set up a showdown between Matt Murdock and Kingpin in Season 2, the series also needs Marvel’s most frightening villain to really raise the stakes.
Daredevil: Born Again was a brilliant series, but there were times when it was pretty downbeat and depressing. The show kicked off with the death of a beloved character, while it ended with another fan favorite imprisoned (though maybe not for long).
In that final episode, Kingpin committed the most horrific murder yet seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it concluded with him very much on top; a dictator ruling over New York with an iron fist.
That paves the way for a war between Kingpin’s army, and whichever heroes Daredevil can convince to join his crew. But what would make Season 2 even better is the involvement of Marvel’s most interesting villain.
Why Kilgrave needs to show up in Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again
David Tennant’s Kilgrave whispers to Jessica Jones
Kilgrave debuted in Season 1 of Jessica Jones – before she connected with Daredevil and the rest of The Defenders – and it quickly became clear that he was unlike any villain that had appeared in the MCU.
Played by David Tennant with a combination of charm and malevolence, Kilgrave can control minds, but rather than using that power to help those in need, he utlizies it for personal pleasure and gain. Kilgrave also uses his ability to bring people pain, driving them to suicide, or forcing them to commit murders on his behalf.
Nowhere are his evil intentions clearer than in his treatment of Jessica Jones. Spotting her on the street, Kilgrave likes what he sees, so immediately puts her under his control, forcing Jones to do whatever he desires for months on end.
She eventually escapes that slavery, but Kilgrave’s burgeoning obsession leads him to hurt her friends, while he also tortures and torments Jessica herself.
All of which makes him a diabolical foe, but his sick sense of humor – combined with a grim back story that saw him experimented on as a child – make Kilgrave an endlessly interesting villain who could have caused ongoing chaos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Unfortunately, he was killed off at the end of Jessica Jones Season 1, with Jones herself snapping his neck in the final episode. But no one is really dead in the MCU, and he did return via hallucinations in Seasons 2 and 3.
David Tennant wants to bring Kilgrave back

But for Born Again Season 2, Marvel needs to fully revive the character, to give Daredevil an opponent who is even more terrifying than Kingpin, thereby really stacking the odds against Matt Murdock.
If the Daredevil team were to lean in that direction, David Tennant is keen to reprise the role, recently saying on the Off Menu podcast, “The trouble with that character is he’s so specific and quite hard to write for because it’s quite hard to create conflict around him because everything he says is done.
“So in storytelling terms, it probably is only one story to tell I would think. Although I’m very happy if somebody wants to try a second one.”
He then mentions how death “means nothing” in the MCU, and that you can “pop through a portal,” with Tennant even spitballing ideas for new powers Kilgrave could possess.
So with David Tennant onboard, and Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again shooting soon for a 2026 release, the ball is in your court Marvel…
