Cosina announced that a new Voigtlander Nokton 75mm f/1.5 Aspherical — of which versions are already available for Nikon Z, Canon RF, and Leica VM-mount — will be released for Sony E-mount in July.
The company says the medium telephoto lens is ideal for creating a defocused background behind a main subject and the company puts emphasis on keeping the optic both compact as well as high performant.
As has been the case for a majority of Cosina’s Voigtlander lenses released in recent years, the Voigtlander Nokton 75mm f/1.5 Aspherical is equipped with electronic contacts. While it is a manual focus-only optic, the inclusion of these contacts means that EXIF information is transmitted to an attached Sony camera body and it also works with Sony’s peripheral illumination, chromatic aberration control, distortion aberration control, and in-body image stabilization. Cosina says it also has support for a magnified view when operating the focus ring.
The manual focus ring is designed with an emphasis on precision and, as Cosina says, just the right amount of torque so that it feels smooth while also allowing for subtle focus adjustments.
Cosina’s new lens is constructed of seven elements arranged into six groups including three partial dispersion glass optics and one aspherical optic (located closest to the lens collar).
Despite having a wide-open aperture of f/1.5, the Cosina Voigtlander Nokton 75mm f/1.5 Aspherical has a minimum aperture of f/32. Typically, lenses that open wider than f/2 rarely close down beyond f/16 and, even rarer, close down beyond f/22. Cosina pushed that to f/32 allowing photographers to achieve deep focus. The aperture is provided thanks to a 12-bladed diaphragm that is controlled via a manual ring that is de-clicked, allowing it to be used effectively for both photo and video capture.
The Voigtlander Nokton 75mm f/1.5 Aspherical weighs 515 grams and features a front filter size of 62mm. It has a minimum focusing distance of 0.55 meters (about 21.6 inches) and has a diameter of 75mm and a length of 73.9mm.

Cosina expects to make the Voigtlander Nokton 75mm f/1.5 Aspherical lens available in Japan sometime in July where it will retail for 135,000 yen (about $858). Availability outside of Japan, specifically in North America, will likely follow in the ensuing months.
