Century-Old German Brand Beyerdynamic Acquired

The owners of beyerdynamic have agreed to sell the company. The announcement dates from June 6, 2025, and was revealed publicly on June 9, when a document detailing the terms of an acquisition by Jiahe Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., acting on behalf of Cosonic International Pte., confirmed the intent to acquire beyerdynamic GmbH & Co., all its assets, and subsidiaries in the US, China, and India. Cosonic is a large ODM/OEM based in Dongguan, China, recognized for its work for many international and Chinese audio brands.
beyerdynamic is still one of those brands that is worth far more than its actual business, as the sales agreement PDF (in Chinese) reveals. The company was acquired for approximately 122 million Euros, which already takes into account that the company was operating at a loss until 2024, when it had its first positive year after the pandemic.
The company was founded by Eugen Beyer in 1924 as “Elektrotechnische Fabrik Eugen Beyer”, originally designing and manufacturing loudspeakers for cinema and eventually developing the first pair of dynamic headphones in the 1930s. After the Second World War, the company moved its operations from Berlin to Heilbronn, where it started making ribbon microphones, gradually developing a whole portfolio for studio recording microphones. It wasn’t until the 1950s that it became known as beyerdynamic, and headphones and microphones remained its core business since then. The company gradually expanded its distribution around the world, eventually creating its first subsidiary in Farmingdale, New York.

Although its classic headphones and microphones use diaphragms and capsules manufactured in Germany, and some models continue to this day to be assembled in Europe, the company’s newest generation products for creators, and latest generation earphones and earbuds are manufactured in China.
beyerdynamic remained a family-owned corporate structure, but the company did not succeed in navigating the fast-changing, highly competitive market, particularly in the more affordable product segments, where it offers headsets, gaming, and home office products with very little synergy with the brand’s origins in professional applications.
In 2023, the company appointed Andreas Rapp as chief executive officer and managing director. He worked previously in beyerdynamic’s consumer division, from 2002 to 2004, and was a former marketing and sales executive at Jabra, Libratone, Sonos, and Harman International.

According to the only document in Chinese that was made available on the Cosonic website, the acquisition agreed upon by all parties encompasses all the limited partnership rights and interests of beyerdynamic Verwaltungs GmbH, and all the shares of beyerdynamic GmbH & Co. KG and its subsidiaries by Jiahe Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cosonic International Pte (known as Jiahe International).
Jiahe International agreed to pay 122 million Euros in cash (approximately 1 billion yuan), although the final acquisition price will be determined after the conclusion of an audit, closing of financial statements, and final evaluation of the company. Jiahe Intelligent Technology Co. is a consumer electronics manufacturer founded in 2013 in Dongguan, Guangdong Province, specializing in audio products and accessories. Its subsidiaries, Jiahe International, Cosonic International Pte. Ltd. (Singapore), and Jiahe Acoustics (Hong Kong), ensure the company’s activities worldwide.
At the date of this post, beyerdynamic has yet to confirm the sale officially – no press release has been issued. Unofficial statements by company executives state that Cosonic will build select beyerdynamic consumer products in China, and that there are no plans to cut the company’s workforce in Germany, where the classic and professional products continue to be manufactured.
