Car goes flying after heatwave causes massive bump in the road

A video has gone viral on social media showing a car going airborne after the road it was driving on buckled due to extreme heat.
The Summer season started on June 20, 2025, and Mother Nature has already brought the heat to cities around the United States.
However, a road in Cape Girardeau couldn’t withstand the extreme heat and began to break and rise from the ground, prompting one bystander to begin filming on their phone.
It wasn’t shut off to traffic, though, and one driver received a bit of a wake-up call when the road suddenly buckled and sent the car flying through the air.
Viral clip shows road suddenly buckle
According to USA Today, the clip was filmed on Sunday, June 22, by a man who had been keeping an eye on the small bulge in the road.
“When I went back to get a front angle of cars going over the smaller buckle, the road exploded and rose over 18 inches, sending a car airborne,” he said.
The Cape Girardeau Police Department also said that there were no injuries reported by the driver of the now-viral flying car.
They added: “In reference to safe driving and roadway buckling due to heat, drivers should be wearing a seat belt, and if a driver notices anything unusual with the roadway, please contact local law enforcement as soon as possible.”
According to the National Weather Service, the area in the clip is facing temperatures of 106 degrees and is under a heat advisory until Friday, June 27.
It’s not the first jumping car that’s gone viral on social media in 2025, either. Back in April, IShowSpeed was left mindblown after checking out a Chinese car that can jump and “dance” beside him.
