Canon’s super telephoto lens lineup might soon get even more exciting. After much speculation and waiting, it seems Canon is preparing to expand its RF lens offerings with not one but two new super telephoto zooms—one of which is rumored to be the Canon RF 150-600mm f/5.6L IS USM.
This new lens would fall under Canon’s prestigious “Big White” L-series umbrella, a name reserved for its professional-grade, weather-sealed super telephoto lenses. While the price will likely reflect its elite status, a constant f/5.6 aperture across a 150–600mm zoom range would fill a much-needed niche in Canon’s RF lineup—offering wildlife and sports photographers greater flexibility and reach without compromising on image quality.
Canon already has a diverse array of long lenses in its catalog, from budget-friendly fixed aperture f/11 primes like the RF 600mm and 800mm, to the versatile RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L IS USM, and the recently launched RF 200-800mm f/6.3-9 IS USM. A constant aperture zoom to 600mm would be a significant step up in performance and usability, particularly for those needing low-light reach and fast autofocus in demanding shooting scenarios.
Additionally, Canon is expected to update its RF 400mm f/2.8L and RF 600mm f/4L IS USM lenses in 2026, possibly integrating built-in teleconverters—a trend we’re now seeing across several manufacturers.
