Canon Launches Affordable RF 75-300mm F4-5.6 Lens and EOS R100 Double Zoom Kit for Entry-Level Photographers

Canon USA has officially announced the launch of the RF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 lens, an ultra-telephoto zoom lens designed with affordability and ease of use in mind, specifically for beginners stepping into the EOS R mirrorless ecosystem. Alongside the lens, Canon is also introducing the EOS R100 Double Zoom Lens Kit, which bundles the new RF 75-300mm with the compact and budget-friendly EOS R100 camera—creating a compelling starter package for aspiring creators and hobbyist photographers.

Canon RF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 Lens: $219 at B&H.

Canon EOS R100 with 18-45mm and 75-300mm Lenses: $799 at B&H.

The RF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 lens is a lightweight telephoto zoom that delivers a significant reach—up to a 480mm equivalent focal length on APS-C bodies like the EOS R100. This makes it especially ideal for shooting distant subjects such as wildlife, sports, concerts, or scenic landscapes. Despite its extended range, the lens is remarkably compact, weighing just over 1 pound, and uses a modest 58mm filter thread. It features a variable maximum aperture of f/4-5.6 and a DC motor for autofocus. A 4.9-foot minimum focusing distance and 0.25x magnification make it versatile enough for close-up details as well.

Canon has also equipped the lens with Super Spectra Coating to reduce ghosting and flare, helping to deliver sharp, high-contrast images even in challenging lighting. A 7-blade circular aperture contributes to pleasing background blur (bokeh), which is especially valuable for portraits and isolating subjects.

Bundled with this new lens is the Canon EOS R100, the brand’s most compact and cost-effective EOS R mirrorless camera. With a 24.2MP APS-C sensor and DIGIC 8 image processor, the R100 is capable of capturing high-quality stills and video. It supports 4K (cropped) video at 24fps and Full HD (full-width) at 60fps, making it a practical choice for content creators and casual videographers. Autofocus includes face and eye detection for both photo and video, and wireless connectivity via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi ensures seamless sharing and remote shooting.

Canon is clearly targeting first-time mirrorless users or those transitioning from smartphone photography or older Rebel-series DSLRs. The new RF 75-300mm lens and EOS R100 kit provide a user-friendly, affordable way to explore the benefits of interchangeable-lens photography, particularly the flexibility and creative control it enables.

The RF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 lens is scheduled to be available in July 2025 at an MSRP of $219.99, while the EOS R100 Double Zoom Lens Kit offers additional value for those looking to dive into Canon’s mirrorless system without breaking the bank.
