Call of Duty looks completely unrecognizable in new Gundam game mode

Call of Duty looks completely unrecognizable in a new limited-time Gundam-focused game mode for mobile players. With new characters and abilities, a unique map, and a total gameplay overhaul, it’s virtually a different game.

When you see a picture of an older Call of Duty title, you instantly know what you’re looking at. Though, that’s become a bit muddled in recent years as everyone from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to Beavis and Butthead have joined the series and confused the tone.

Recent iterations have pushed the boundaries in that sense, but no game has done more to offset the ‘typical’ CoD vibe than CoD Mobile. Each season brings something new to the fold, something wholly different from what can be found across the mainline games on console and PC.

Now, with 2025’s Season 6 update, Gundams are in the game. At first, you may think that means nothing more than some skins, but you’d be sorely mistaken. There’s a new limited-time game mode accompanying the usual cosmetics, and it completely transforms the CoD experience.

CoD Mobile’s Gundam game mode is strikingly different

As part of an official collaboration with the Japanese IP, “Gundams Arrive” in CoD Mobile’s Season 6 update. For a limited time, players can jump into a 4v4 Team Deathmatch playlist with a Gundam twist.

Rather than loading in with boots on the ground, players are piloting their own mechas “designed for fluid and versatile combat,” as devs put it. They’re each capable of soaring through the sky, unleashing devastating laser or rocket attacks, and so much more.

CoD Mobile partnered with Gundam for a huge Season 6 collaboration.

Just a few seconds of watching the mode in action and you’d be forgiven for forgetting that it’s even a Call of Duty game. Played from a third-person perspective, the mode is set on a space-station map built from the ground up for the collaboration.

Paired with original HUD elements and a Japanese announcer commentating your actions, it’s clear no stone was left unturned in bringing this mode to life.

“When they said ‘Gundam Team Deathmatch,’ I did not expect to be able [to] pilot and fight in the game,” one player said after diving into the new mode. “CoDM cooked with this one. This is fire,” another player chimed in.

There’s currently no word on the exact date the Gundam mode goes away, but we can make an educated guess. With new seasons arriving every month in CoD Mobile, it’s likely to be replaced by the time Season 7 starts up at the beginning of August.
