A man in Long Beach, California, stole a truck and evaded police for several minutes, causing multiple car accidents before crashing into a paint store. After the mayhem ended, he began walking away from the scene like nothing even happened.
The man in question was driving so erratically that police opted not to chase and try to end the pursuit themselves, keeping their distance and having a helicopter keep track of him.
As he barreled down the road, driving on the wrong side of the road and leaving a path of destruction in his wake, the pursuit came to an end after he drove right through an intersection and struck two other cars at the same time.
After that, though, the driver did something unusual: Rather than fleeing the scene of the crime and trying to hide, he calmly walked down the street until he was apprehended.

At the point that someone has news helicopters circling them in open skies, there’s a very slim chance they evade police. Most car chases end one way.
However, at the point that an individual is driving in a manner that’s incredibly erratic and hard to predict, police will back off in some cases and keep track of the suspect from a distance. This isn’t true of every US state, but California specifically has a no chase law.
As a result of this approach, the chase’s ending took a bizarre twist: Rather than running from the scene, he just began walking away and tried to play it off like nothing even happened.

After crashing into a paint store parking lot, the truck’s driver walked out of the vehicle and sauntered away from the scene of the crime.
Due to how long and chaotic this chase was, multiple news helicopters were flying overhead to provide different angles on the chase.
Despite trying to blend in and walk away, police tackled him almost two minutes after he exited the vehicle. The chase resulted in several people having to be hospitalized, but none of these people’s injuries are life-threatening according to a report from KTLA.
