Box truck randomly explodes in viral video caught on doorbell camera

A video of a box truck randomly exploding and damaging four homes while driving down the road has gone viral online, leaving viewers shocked.
On Sunday, May 25, a box truck was driving down the street in Addison, Illinois, when it spontaneously exploded, leaving a trail of debris that included the truck, clothing and damaged furniture.
According to CBS News, the company that rented the truck to the driver says he was hauling household belongings, moving his personal items from one place to another. An investigation by police, the bomb squad, and the ATF later determined that the explosion was caused by a leaking propane tank in the truck.
The explosion was caught on a nearby home security camera, and footage of the blast has gone viral on social media.
Box truck explosion damages four homes
As a result of the explosion, four homes were damaged, with one being left temporarily uninhabitable. CBS says one wall of the box truck was projected towards a house, hitting a load-bearing wall and pushing it two to four feet inward in the process.
“They kind of described it as an earthquake, and then a tree falling on their house,” said Addison Fire Protection District Chief Brock Herion.
As the video went viral on social media, the explosion left users across the world shocked, and many took to the replies to share their thoughts.
“Yeah, I’m not driving my car for the rest of the year,” one user commented.
Another said, “The driver lived, but sadly, he will need new pants.”
“Ever since Final Destination Bloodlines came out, things have been getting a little bit too real,” a third user replied.
Back in 2023, one student went viral on TikTok after revealing that her car had burst into flames while driving to graduation. The fire department was able to put it out quickly, but the car suffered so much damage that it was totaled.
