Blizzard servers targeted in DDoS attacks impacting OnlyFangs Hardcore WoW raid

Blizzard servers have been struck offline numerous times of late due to a string of DDoS attacks. As a result, popular WoW guild OnlyFangs has lost multiple Hardcore characters amid their raid race attempts.
Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks have hindered Blizzard services over the past week. Over multiple days, online servers have been hit offline, leaving players across all manner of Blizzard titles temporarily unable to access their favorite games, be it World of Warcraft or Overwatch.
In the past 24 hours alone, however, a series of DDoS attacks have seemingly targeted hugely popular streaming group OnlyFangs. As the WoW guild raced to be the first Hardcore clear in the Liberation of Undermine raid race, servers were taken down at inopportune moments.
With multiple players disconnected, it resulted in a number of Hardcore characters being erased entirely, as death sends you back to the menus. There are no do-overs in Hardcore mode. While there’s no surefire guarantee it’s all connected, the guild is treating it as a targeted attack and the future of the group is now in jeopardy.
DDoS attacks leaves future of OnlyFangs guild in the balance
Starting up their raid run on March 22, DDoS attacks began and quickly led to a delay in the race. “Hopefully tomorrow goes better and we don’t get too cooked, OnlyFangs member Sodapoppin said on stream, announcing the pushback.
Upon returning on March 23, their next attempt was also cut short. Roughly halfway through the Flamegor boss, as WoWHead reported, DDoS attacks started up once again. Slowly but surely, members of the group all began to disconnect, with many outright losing their Hardcore characters as a result.
For context, it can take weeks of dedicated grinding to get raid-ready on a Hardcore character. One slip-up and all the progress is gone. Losing your character to a factor out of your control, such as the game’s servers, would no doubt be extremely frustrating as a result.
Given the frustrations, it could be the end of OnlyFangs as we know it. The mega-popular WoW guild is now seeking a rollback from Blizzard, ensuring all characters are restored to their pre-DDoS states. However, if that doesn’t come to pass, “that’s the end,” Soda explained.
“I’m not gonna have people prepare and get ready just to die to a [disconnect], when it’s inevitably going to happen again.”
Blizzard is yet to comment on the matter but we’ll be sure to update you with any further details.
