But it’s the latter that comes under fire in the final episode, so read on to find out how and why Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker is having a pop at both the show’s viewers and us entertainment journalists. Though be warned, there are SPOILERS for the USS Callister: Into Infinity episode ahead…
USS Callister viewers told to “stop pausing” by Black Mirror
USS Callister: Into Infinity is the first-ever Black Mirror sequel, being a follow-up to the acclaimed Season 4 episode that tackled themes of toxic masculinity and the abuse of power, wrapped up in a brilliant Star Trek spoof.
The sequel finds the USS Callister’s crew of sentient digital clones robbing players in virtual reality game Infinity, causing much consternation amongst those who’ve been mugged. In response, said players complain to software company Callister Inc., where their objections are collated.
10 minutes into the episode, we see that log onscreen, and they include grievances like “robbed by two bottomholes with no player tags,” “ate lead + they had NO PLAYER TAGS?!” and “Opponents bleeding like Irl – no player tags?”

The responses are up for just a couple of seconds, which doesn’t give you time to read all the quibbles. But if you pause the frame, and head right to the bottom, the final objection reads:
“Stop pausing and watch the show.”
This is a funny message for the viewers, and also for websites like Dexerto, who hunt down Easter eggs in every corner of the screen, including the brilliant hidden detail in ‘Common People’ that we posted this morning. So well played, Mr. Brooker, and thanks for making us feel seen.
