Bethesda responds after Oblivion Remastered update breaks graphics options

An unannounced update for Oblivion Remastered has resulted in issues affecting various settings on PC versions of the game.
Following its release on April 25, players reported that certain settings, including those for anti-aliasing and upscaling options, were no longer adjustable and had been automatically disabled, with no option to reenable them.
While it’s not clear what the update was specifically for, Bethesda confirmed hours after its deployment that it was a hotfix containing “backend tweaks”, with nothing “directly impacting gameplay.”
Bethesda confirms resolution on the way
“Hi everyone! Bethesda CM here, first thank you all for your super quick feedback on today’s hotfix,” the studio said in a Reddit post addressing player feedback, adding, “The hotfix we pushed live today was for a few backend tweaks and nothing directly impacting gameplay, but we’ve seen it’s affected some Microsoft Store players’ UI settings for graphical settings. Specifically, related to upscaling and anti-aliasing.”
Stating that any graphics settings altered before the hotfix would remain as they were and “function normally,” Bethesda recognised that those affected would be “temporarily unable to adjust those settings.” While no timeframe was provided, the update did confirm that “The team is taking a look and working out a resolution.”
Oblivion Remastered was shadow dropped on April 22 for consoles and PC following a special Bethesda livestream on the same day.
Elder Scrolls fans’ return to a modernized Cyrodiil became one of the games industry’s worst-kept secrets after numerous leaks heavily hinted at the project’s existence. On April 15, mere days before the remaster’s release, numerous screenshots of the RPG were found on developer Virtuos’ website.
Despite being dubbed the “gold standard” of remakes in early reviews, criticism hasn’t been non-existent. Oblivion’s Expert difficulty, in particular, has been scrutinized, with many claiming it has been overtuned compared to the original.
