Bethesda gifts free Oblivion Remastered keys to Skyblivion mod team after launch

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered shadow dropped on April 22 after being one of the worst-kept secrets in gaming history. However, in doing so, they encroached upon an upcoming modpack, which aimed to do the same thing as the Remaster.

Despite it being a surprise release, the Oblivion Remaster wasn’t exactly well hidden. Before the live stream that announced the game on April 22, we already knew it would be coming soon, the file size, what it was going to look like, and even the new cover.

As such, it wasn’t a secret that the remaster was in the works, which plunged modders Skyblivion into the spotlight after their extremely similar mod got some unexpected competition.

Skyblivion modders gifted free Oblivion codes

Essentially, the Skyblivion mod, which has been in the works for years, aimed to replicate Oblivion in Skyrim, implementing a completely remastered version of the game for free. So naturally, when the official remaster was announced, it almost rendered Skyblivion obsolete.

They quickly released a statement explaining that the modders and Bethesda were on “very good terms” and that “Bethesda has always been supporting over community projects like ours and we don’t see that changing anytime soon.”

Then, when the official remaster came out, Bethesda proved that statement to be entirely true, gifting the entire Skyblivion modding team free game keys.

“As massive fans, we’re beyond grateful for the generous gift of Oblivion Remastered game keys for our entire modding team! This means so much to us. Thank you for everything,” shared the team on X, thanking Bethesda for their gesture.

Currently, Skyblivion has a release window of 2025 and will only be released on PC, as is the case with most mods. They have no intention of stopping their development, and it’s clear Bethesda has no intention of stopping it either.
