Best Sciel build in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Clair Obscur Expedition 33 ups the complexity for its fourth character, Sciel, who excels at dishing out huge single-target damage through strategic skill use.

Unlike Maelle, who works best as a reactive front-line attacker, Sciel’s game plan is preemptive. By building damage-boosting Foretell stacks on opponents and juggling Sun and Moon-aspected skills, she can enter her monstrously powerful Twilight Mode.

Due to her nature as a backloaded damage-dealer, Sciel shines brightest in prolonged engagements where she’s able to build maximum Foretell and combine them with Twilight’s buff for maximum DPS.

Best character build for Sciel

Sciel’s most potent role is as a pure damage dealer. Prioritize attributes that increase her attack power, crit chance, and speed.

  • Might: The primary stat you want to level for Sciel. The higher your Might, the the higher her damage.
  • Agility: Invest in this next. As Sciel’s big damage requires multiple turns of prep, Agility will help increase her actions per turn.
  • Luck: Increases Critical hit chance, synergizing well with certain Pictos and weapons.

Here’s the stat spread you should be aiming for, depending on your progress through Expedition 33.

  • Early Game: Might (60%) / Agility (30%) / Luck (10%)
  • Late Game: Might (40%) / Agility 30%) / Luck (30%)

The above spread for late game can be altered to lean more into Luck, but if you’re looking for consistent damage, this is preferable.

Best Skills for Sciel

Sciel needs a balance of Sun and Moon-aspected skills to make entering Twilight Mode as consistent as possible, while also building Foretell stacks.

That being the case, be careful of ignoring a skill’s element in favor of superior Foretell generation. Likewise, she also has access to some key party buffs, but these largely only become relevant in late game.

Early Game

  • Delaying Slash: A two-hit Moon skill that consumes Foretell to deal additional damage and delay the opponent’s next turn. A solid Foretell spender and core damage skill for Early Game.
  • Focused Foretell: Sun skill and Sciel’s go-to opener. Applies five Foretell when any have yet to be applied, jumpstarting her gameplan.
  • Marking Card: Sun Skill. Applies Mark to a target for party synergy, applies three Foretell and deals Dark damage. Excellent multi-purpose skill.
  • Sealed Fate: Moon skill. High damage, multi-hit ability that prevents applied Foretell from being consumed on any Critical Hits. Each hit deals 200% extra damage for each Foretell consumed, even if saved by a crit.
  • Grim Harvest: Moon skill. Deals modest Dark damage while also healing all allies for 30% of their health. Can be augmented with an additional 5% health restored per Foretell, essentially becoming a full party heal.

Mid–Late Game

  • Twilight Dance: Incredibly hard-hitting skill that benefits from Twilight Mode’s damage increase as well as any Foretell stacks. Extends Twilight by an additional turn. Expensive at 9 AP but worth the investment.
  • Final Path: Sun and Moon skill. Deals massive dark damage and applies 10 Foretell with a chance to Break enemies. Extremely versatile skill that leads perfectly into Twilight Dance.
  • All Set: Applies Shell, Powerful, and Rush to all party members, including herself.

Best Pictos for Sciel

Sciel’s best skills all require huge AP to perform. Prioritize any Pictos that either increase starting AP or increase its generation.

Early Game

  • Rewarding Mark: +2 AP on dealing damage to a Marked target once per turn. Synergizes extremely well with Gustave’s Marking Shot.
  • Dead Energy II: Gain +3 AP after defeating an enemy. Fantastic for group fights and helps Sciel snowball.
  • Dodger: Gain 1 AP after performing a Perfect Dodge once per turn. Also provides 12 Speed and +3% Crit Rate.

Late Game

  • Energizing Start III: User starts the battle with +1 AP.
  • First Strike: Allows Sciel to play first and increases Crit Rate by 10%. Excellent choice for getting Sciel into Twilight faster.
  • Attack Lifesteal: Adds +8% Crit Chance and enables Sciel to heal 15% of her health on Base Attack, increasing her sustain.

Best Weapons for Sciel

Early Game

  • Scieleson: Sciel’s starting weapon. While it has no level-associated unlocks, B and C scaling in Agility and Luck bolster two of Sciel’s three preferred stats.

Late Game

  • Chation: Huge damage stat. Sciel loses Agility scaling with Chation but gains the ability to generate 10 Foretell with every Sun Skill.
