Alta Audio, the company created by industry veteran Michael Levy, announced that it received US patent 11917361B2 for its XTL Transmission Line technology. Recently introduced in the company’s latest Aphrodite four-way loudspeaker, updating an already patented original technology that applies the cabinet internal geometry to tune the frequency response, the new approach evolves to a hybrid transmission line, a ported enclosure design that Michael Levy says greatly increases power handling, lowers distortion, and extends bass frequencies.
As the US11917361B2 “Loudspeaker” patent abstract describes: A method and system of improving frequency responses at lower frequencies from a loudspeaker includes simultaneously tuning a transmission line and a tuned port in the same system. The transmission line and the tuned ports are tuned to innate characteristics of the physical and electrical components within the loudspeaker. In one embodiment, an improved frequency response of a loudspeaker is achieved by tuning the transmission line to the frequency of the maximum excursion point of the loudspeakers. In another embodiment the transmission line is tuned to the resonance frequency of the loudspeaker having the tuned port.

XTL technology was most recently featured in the company’s new flagship speaker, Aphrodite, which includes a custom-designed four-way driver complement with one titanium former 10″ woofer; one hex cone 8 3/4″ titanium former lower midrange; two hex cone 6″ upper midrange drivers; and one amorphous core transformer, high output ribbon tweeter.
