All Vault Hunters in Borderlands 4: New classes revealed & abilities explained

With Borderlands 4 comes four brand-new Vault Hunters ready to make a name for themselves. Here’s a comprehensive look at everything we know about these new characters thus far.
Whenever a new Borderlands game is in the spotlight, we know we’re in for a heck of a time meddling with all sorts of wacky abilities and game-changing perks. Borderlands 4 is, of course, set to be no different, promising some of the most chaotic gameplay the series has ever seen – Perhaps outside of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands.
Players will take control of one of four new Vault Hunters, all fit with their own unique kits. From passive effects to three distinct skill trees that can all be heavily customized, there’s a great deal to learn in order to master any given Borderlands character.
With that in mind, if you’re looking to get the early leg up, we’ve put together a comprehensive rundown on everything revealed about the game’s new Vault Hunters thus far.
New Vault Hunters in Borderlands 4
No different from usual, four new Vault Hunters are stepping up to the plate in Borderlands 4. They are as follows:
- Amon – The Forgeknight
- Harlowe – The Gravitar
- Rafa – The Exo-Soldier
- Vex – The Siren
Borderlands 4 kicks off with four new Vault Hunters, but that’s not to say the number won’t increase after launch with future DLC.
Of course, much like every other Borderlands game before it, Borderlands 4 is expected to add to the roster over time. Future DLC should give us at least one or two additional Vault Hunters to run amok with, and we’ll be sure to update you here when we have further details on that front.
For now, let’s dive into more details on each of the confirmed characters.
Amon – The Forgeknight

Rafa is the brute of the group, much like Brick and Krieg before him, though perhaps a little less twisted.
Character details
Amon was born into a cult that just so happened to worship a Vault Monster. As the story goes, said Vault Monster eventually turned on the cult, massacring them all except for Amon, who was able to make it out alive.
Amon now dedicates his life to slaughtering as many Vault Monsters as he can get his hands on.
Action Skills
While no official details have yet been confirmed, we did get a quick glimpse at Amon during the State of Play broadcast. Throughout the various snippets, we can see this hulking character smashing into foes with huge melee weapons of sorts.
It appears Amon’s kit will largely revolve around close-quarters combat, sprinting through the battlefield to land devastating close-range attacks.
Harlowe – The Gravitar

Harlowe has the biggest brain of the new characters in Borderlands 4, using technology to her advantage in a fight.
Character details
Perhaps the most intelligent of the group, Harlowe was once a scientist under the Maliwan corporation. She uses her knowledge to get an upper hand against her enemies, bringing new technology into combat and wielding it to her advantage.
Furthermore, Halowe radiates positivity, always looking to lift the spirits of those around her.
Action Skills
We didn’t get a direct look at Harlowe’s skill trees in the State of Play event, however, we did get a brief look at what the character is capable of.

Harlowe can trap enemies in bubbles before bursting them with immense damage.
In particular, we know thanks to their technological prowess, they’ve invented a power that traps enemies in bubbles. Once suspended, they’re easy targets for gunfire or environmental damage.
Rafa – The Exo-Soldier

Rafa always has to keep his head on a swivel as he’s always being tracked.
Character details
While Rafa may look human on the surface, being born and raised in a microgravity environment has left his skeleton altered for life. Unable to live in any other conditions, he joined Tediore’s military group and earned himself an exo-suit that lets him live out his dreams of exploring the galaxy.
His past is a troubled one, however, as he wasn’t granted permission to leave Tediore’s military. Having fled, he’s now being hunted to no end.
Action Skills
Although Rafa was the secondary character on display throughout the State of Play broadcast, we never got a proper look from this character’s POV.

The only ability of Rafa’s we’ve seen so far are these deadly Arc Knives.
The only surefire detail we have to go off comes from a brief snippet showcasing his Arc Knives, a devastating melee assault using the powers of his exo-suit.
Vex

Vex was the first Borderlands 4 character we saw proper gameplay for, revealing two of her three skill trees.
Character details
Vex is Borderlands 4’s Siren, following in the footsteps of Lillith, Maya, and many others from the previous games. Although she had a rough upbringing and struggled to come to terms with her Siren powers, Vex still looks to uplift others when possible, especially when it involves unleashing her abilities on evil forces.
Passive Ability
Each Vault Hunter in Borderlands 4 loads in with their own unique Passive ability that has game-changing effects. While we didn’t see any others, we did get confirmation on Vex’s Passive, and we’ve detailed it below:
- Phase Covenant (Passive): Vex is Attuned to the Elemental Type of her current Gun, converting all Action Skill and Melee Damage into that type.
What this means is that any damage-dealing abilities are tied to the element of her current weapon. Say, for instance, you’re wielding an Assault Rifle that deals fire damage, all of your skills will also deal fire damage.
As we saw in the State of Play stream, this even means changing the powers of her summons to match the element of her current weapon.
Action Skills
Throughout the first gameplay showcase, we got a deep dive into Vex’s arsenal, including a look at a few specific abilities spanning two of her skill trees.
Below is a full rundown of every skill we’ve seen for Vex thus far.
Incarnate
Vex creates a Phase Explosion, dealing Damage to nearby enemies and fully restoring her Health. While active, Vex can use Eldritch Blast and gains increased Movement Speed.
Eldritch Blast: Press L1 to fire an Eldritch Blast from her offhand, dealing Damage to nearby enemies on impact. Dealing Gun Damage reduces Eldritch Blast’s Cooldown.
Press and hold L1 to end Incarnate early, partially refunding the Cooldown.
Phase Phamiliar
Vex is joined by her Minion, Trouble. When killed, Trouble will Respawn after a cooldown.
Press L1 to teleport Trouble, dealing Damage in an area. Trouble then transforms into a Badass, fully restoring Health and gaining increased Damage for a Duration.
Activating Phase Phamiliar will Respawn Trouble if currently Dead.
