AKM Now Sampling Reimagined AK4497S Stereo D/A Converter
Asahi Kasei Microdevices Corporation (AKM) announced that its AK4497SVQ Stereo Premium DAC is now sampling to the industry, promising to elevate audio designs to new heights of ultra-high fidelity. Using AKM’s advanced Switched Capacitor Filter Voltage Output “Velvet Sound” technology, the new AK4497S – the “S” stands for “superior” – promises to deliver “a dynamic, powerful listening experience” that reproduces the original audio recording even more faithfully than the original AK4497.
The AK4497SVQ features six types of digital filters, realizing simple and flexible sound tuning options in a wide range of applications. The device accepts input formats up to 32-bit/768kHz PCM and DSD512, making it possible to accurately reproduce the information-rich, unaltered data of high-resolution audio sources. And responding to current market trends of designing high-quality immersive audio experiences in new generation vehicles, the AK4497SVQ IC also meets automotive quality standards, allowing for unprecedented levels of sound quality in luxury automobile applications.
The AK4497S features the latest advancements in AKM’s Velvet Sound technology, delivering enhanced sound quality, performance, and ease of use compared to its predecessor, the AK4497, which has been widely adopted in both home and portable high-end audio players. This new model supports digital input resolutions up to 768kHz PCM and DSD512, faithfully reproducing the natural, immersive audio sound fields captured in the finest high-resolution recordings with an impressive 129dB of signal to noise ratio (A-weighted) and -117dB THD+N measured on the analog output.
This enhanced analog performance leverages DWA (Data Weighted Averaging) routing technology from AKM’s flagship AK4499EX, allowing the AK4497S to significantly minimize the impact of conversion element variation, resulting in superior noise and distortion characteristics. And for seamless high-resolution audio playback, the AK4497S features Automatic D/A Conversion Mode Switching, which enables seamless switching between PCM and DSD audio input formats.
According to AKM, the AK4497S DAC is ideal for a variety of applications, including new network audio devices and systems, USB DACs, CD/SACD players, wireless speaker systems, soundbars, digital audio players, electronic musical instruments, audio interfaces, digital mixers, and luxury car audio systems
Sample shipments of AK4497SVQ devices are on its way, with mass production slated for March 2025.
