Rapper Tory Lanez has been hospitalized following a stabbing at the California Correctional Institution. The rapper was stabbed 14 times, according to a post on his Instagram, but is now in stable condition.
Lanez, real name Daystar Peterson, is currently serving a 10-year sentence for the 2020 shooting of rapper Megan Thee Stallion, after he was convicted in 2022 of three felony charges: assault with a semi-automatic firearm, carrying a loaded unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.
On May 12, at around 7:20 AM local time, the rapper was attacked, according to ABC News. “Staff immediately responded, activated 911 and began medical aid. Peterson was subsequently transported to an outside medical facility for further treatment,” a prison spokesperson said.
On Instagram, Lanez’ account posted an update, stating that he had been stabbed 14 times: Seven times in the back, four in the torso, twice in the back of the head, and once on the left side of his face.
The post also said that both of his lungs collapsed and that he was placed on a breathing apparatus. It added that he is now breathing on his own, talking normally, and “in good spirits.”
“Despite being in pain, he is talking normally, in good spirits, and deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through.”
An investigation has been opened by the prison’s Investigative Services Unit in collaboration with the Kern County District Attorney’s Office. The California Office of the Inspector General has also been notified.
Lanez has continued to maintain his innocence in the shooting case and is currently appealing his conviction. He was denied bond by a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge in September 2023.
