Destiny 2 Heresy update will make premium feature completely free

Destiny 2‘s last major content update before all eyes turn towards Edge of Fate will make fundamental changes to a paid-for feature specifically tied to events.

Similar to the rewards track that accompanies each Destiny 2 season, Event Cards provide limited-time objectives tied to events such as The Dawning and Festival of the Lost.

While the tasks and their individual completion rewards have always been free, several Event Card rewards required purchasing a premium version with real-world cash.

As of May 9, that will no longer be the case.

Event Home explained

Event Home is a revised hub for events debuting with Destiny 2’s Heavy Metal PvP mode on May 9. Bungie confirmed in its April 24 TWID that all future events will adopt the Event Home format, which utilizes a new Event Token currency.

These will be earned entirely through gameplay by completing specific challenges in much the same way as Event Cards operated. Split into daily and weekly objectives, all Tokens earned can be exchanged for weapons or materials in a dedicated Rewards Shop.

The Event Home system will replace Event Cards in their entirety and be free.

A new consumable, Reroll Chips, will debut alongside Heavy Metal’s Event Home. As the name implies, these can be used to replace an unwanted daily challenge with another, earned through “Rank Tracks” or purchased through the Eververse store for real money.

First revealed during Bungie’s Heresy Act 3 stream, Heavy Metal is a vehicle-based team PvP mode that places Guardians either in the cockpit of a Fallen Brig or behind the wheel of a Drake tank to do battle.

Bundled with Update 8.2.6, the patch also introduces Rite of the Nine, a limited-time PvE event tied to Dungeons packed with numerous reprised weapons to chase.
