How to get Vault Cores & Unlock Fast Travel in RuneScape Dragonwilds

RuneScape Dragonwilds is packed with critically important natural resources that will make your life easier, none more so than Vault Cores.
These triangular stones can only be found in dangerous Dragonkin Vaults and are necessary to unlock fast travel, but you don’t need to wait long to get your mitts on some.
In fact, if you know where to look, Vault Cores can be obtained immediately after landing on Ashenfall, and once you’ve found your first two, getting around Dragonwilds’ map will be infinitely easier.
Where to find Vault Cores
Vault Cores can only be found in Dragonkin Vaults dotted around Ashenfall, and the first is surprisingly close to where you first arrive on the island.
Once you’ve met Doric in the Temple Woods, the Dwarf who will teach you how to locate sustenance and craft your first crude weapon during Dragonwilds’ tutorial, follow the main road East, taking the right path when it forks. Follow this trail to its end to find the first Dragonkin Vault.
See the image below for a visualization of where you want to end up.
Once inside the Vault, you’ll need to navigate a series of rudimentary puzzles, traps, and other hazards, including Giant Rats and Vault Guardians.
Fortunately, if you’re ill-equipped, running past enemies is an option to locate your first Vault Core, which lies at the dungeon’s end. If you’re feeling ambitious, activating the lever nearby will open the boss room for the chance to obtain a second Vault Core, although you might struggle to beat its guardian depending on your gear.
Should you die, your grave, containing all your items, will spawn outside the Vault, enabling you to retry as many times as you wish.
Building Lodestones
The crafting recipe for Lodestones will be automatically unlocked upon obtaining your first Vault Core. Barring some exemptions – they can only be placed in the overworld, as one example – Lodestones can be built anywhere and allow near-instant teleportation between each placed on the map.
The following materials are required for each Lodestone:
- Stone x32
- Rune Essence x20
- Vault Core x1

How to get more Vault Cores
Seven Dragonkin Vaults are present on Dragonwilds’ current map, all of which contain more Vault Cores. We’ve marked them all on the map below to better direct you towards them, but be warned – some are infested with super-tough enemies.

As a general rule of thumb, the further North you venture in Ashenfall, the tougher enemies get. The two Vaults in Bramblemead, Dragonwilds’ starting zone, as well as the sole Vault found on the Eastern edge of the Whispering Swamp, will provide enough Cores to get you started.
That’s a wrap on everything you need to know about Vault Cores, but they’re not the only important material you’ll want to be on the lookout for in Dragonwilds. Sandstone and granite are all-important natural resources, and you’ll need some specific materials to craft the fearsome Abyssal Whip.
