Daredevil: Born Again Episode 4 reveals the dark twist behind Kingpin’s Adam mystery

Daredevil: Born Again Episode 4 ends with a major Kingpin reveal – and it’s all to do with Adam, with whom Vanessa had an affair.
This week’s Daredevil is stacked, following Matt as he investigates the murder of Hector Alaya aka White Tiger, and he tracks down his old pal: Frank Castle, better known as The Punisher.
That’s not all: Matt tries to help a client with a shoplifting charge, Daniel Blake narrowly evades Wilson Fisk’s wrath with a huge screw-up, and we even get a (rather disgusting) tease of Muse by the end.
Notably, the episode shines more light on what happened between Vanessa and Adam – and, let’s just say, Fisk isn’t over it just yet.
Fisk is holding Adam prisoner in Daredevil: Born Again
At the end of Daredevil: Born Again Episode 4, it’s revealed that Adam is not only alive but being held captive by Fisk underground.
At the end of the first episode, Fisk told Vanessa she knew about Adam. “Do not kill him,” she asked, and he promised he’s not that sort of man anymore (at least he kind of kept his word).
He was mentioned briefly in Episode 3 (“You’re punishing me for Adam,” Vanessa said), but they discuss him in an therapy session with Heather in the fourth episode. It’s confirmed that Vanessa had an affair with Adam in the gap between Season 3 and Born Again – that lasted seven years, and Vanessa earlier admitted she felt lonely without her husband.

Fisk explains that he had a “dialogue” with him. “I told him that I couldn’t fathom a life of meaning without her,” he tells Vanessa, suggesting he somehow kept his cool and they settled things amicably without bloodshed.
Alas, in the closing minutes, we see Adam behind bars underground, presumably so Fisk can torment him for daring to go near his wife.
In an interview with TV Line, actress Ayelet Zurer was asked if we should be worried for Adam. “Um, we probably should be,” she said.
Speaking to Business Insider, Ayelet Zurer (who plays Vanessa) also teased: “Since he was gone, she took over a little bit and it’s very hard to pull away from that. So some things are not sitting well and they have to deal with that.
“Things changed in their relationship. We come in after a gap of time where they also haven’t been together, I won’t say too much about that. But when they return, they are the very strange lovers that they are.”
