Marvel Rivals is facing yet another of Overwatch’s most confusing issues

Professional Marvel Rivals games are in full force, and some of the games remind us of Overwatch at its most confusing point with high visual clutter and chaos.
Marvel Rivals is often compared to Overwatch 2 as the two continue its unending hero shooter war, with similar formats, game modes, and hero designs. Many fans and content creators were tasked with picking sides on which game they preferred, both at a high and casual level.
Now, as Marvel Rivals begins to support its esports scene with professional tournaments, we’re beginning to see the game played at its highest skill level. And just like Overwatch 2, the game can often look like a mess to watch, confusing casual viewers and even seasoned players with a level of visual chaos that might drive spectators crazy.
Marvel Rivals also has a visual clutter problem
Overwatch 2 at its highest level was often criticized for its lack of visual clarity and screen clutter with its various ability effects. This was a bigger issue when Overwatch still ran a 6v6 format with a double shield meta, and with Symmetra in the fray, both teams can have six massive shields running at the same time.
This has improved marginally in Overwatch 2 with the change to a 5v5 format. One less character in each game obviously means less abilities to clutter the screen, and many characters such as Orisa received new abilities that contributed less clutter overall.
It’s an endearing level of chaos, but was ultimately distracting and continues to be a pain point for some players in Overwatch 2.
With these criticisms in mind, it seems inevitable that Marvel Rivals will also face the same issue. A clip from Marvel Rivals streamer Shroud shows a wild moment from a recent professional game, where four support ults and a few tank and DPS ults are used at the same time.
While this can make for an entertaining viewing experience (or a frustrating one, depending on who you are), it’s definitely a polarizing element of the game.
“Absolutely insane, still shocked this game has soo much draw,” stated one comment, criticizing the insanity of the moment.
“This puts me off trying the game,” wrote another commenter.
This particular clip seems to be a bit of a misplay on both sides, as stacking support ultimates is generally a suboptimal way to go about a fight. Still, as more characters are added and more grand effects are created, and Marvel Rivals will inevitably face this same roadblock that Overwatch continues to face to this day.
