If you loved new Hallmark movie Royalish, watch this emotional film next

Regal romance Royalish is now available to stream on Hallmark+. If you can’t get enough after watching it, here’s the heartwarming movie you need to queue up next.

As far as Hallmark movies go, March is the season of royalty on The Hallmark Channel. Royalish is the third themed film in a row, following The Reluctant Royal and The Royal We (also both available on the streaming service).

Based on the book Once Upon A Royal Summer by Teri Wilson, Royalish follows Lacey, an amusement park princess. She befriends eight-year-old Rose, a real-life princess, and is recruited by her handsome father to travel to their kingdom and be the new governess.

You might be reminded of another princess movie while you’re watching, and it’s exactly what you should put on for the ultimate night of movie binging.

The Princess Diaries gives Royalish a run for its money

Take this… and this… and I give you… a princess. Long before Lacey came face-to-face with actual royals at her day job, another girl found out she was the princess of an unknown (yet completely fictional, sorry) kingdom: Mia Thermopolis in The Princess Diaries.

It’s a tale any self-respecting millennial girl should be familiar with. Mia (played by everyone’s favorite fake royal Anne Hathaway) is a clumsy, shy teen who discovers that she’s the princess of a small European state called Genovia. She’s put through her paces by her grandmother Queen Clarisse (Julie Andrews) while trying to navigate romance and typical American life.

Obviously, there’s not an out-and-out amusement park here, but if you count Mia’s bedroom and the arcades of Santa Monica pier, it basically works out as the same thing. Both Royalish and The Princess Diaries prove how difficult it is to fit into an environment you don’t belong to, as well as just how damn brave girls are (we’re all princesses at heart, let’s be real).

If that hasn’t persuaded you to stick it on after Royalish, remember how many classic moments came from this Disney movie. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve reenacted that makeover scene, Sandra Oh’s “The Queen is coming,” and Julie Andrews’ “Shut up!” I’ve wished Lily was my best friend, Clarisse was my grandmother, and Mia’s bedroom firepole escape was how I got to breakfast every morning as a kid.

After having watched both, it’s the perfect movie night in duo. The Princess Diaries (and the sequel) is available to stream on Disney+. Plans currently start at $10 a month.

Royalish is available to stream on Hallmark+ now. Catch up with everything happening in The Way Home and When Calls the Heart, alongside the best Hallmark TV shows of all time.
