The Captcha of DOOM! – PC Perspective

Kill Three Enemies To Prove You’re Human

The captcha arms race has literally escalated with a new solution, fire up a level of DOOM in your browser and kill three enemies to prove you are human.  This task would be a bit of a nightmare to program a bot to defeat, and in theory will be easier for a human to complete than many of the more extreme captcha tests being used.  Instead of deciding if that box with a tiny part of a bicycle handle should be selected or not, or if the smudge on your screen is a B or an 8, you can blast some imps and shotgun guys to verify your humanity.  It is also an entertaining interlude in your browsing session.

There is only one level, with a cage of imps blasting away at you immediately, so you may get bored of the level rather quickly.  It would be lovely to see a few different levels; not just for the entertainment value but also to mess with anyone who tries to record a macro of a successful run and feed it to a bot.  The interface is purely keyboard, which may upset those who played the original DOOM with a mouse and on a 4k monitor the game is tiny, which adds a level of difficulty.

Oh, it’s set to Nightmare difficulty so you may well die a few times but the reload speed is very quick so just keep at it.
